Child Support

Child Support Lawyer | Child Support Modification Attorney

Colorado child support guidelines regulate whether and to what extent a parent pays child support. The state child support guidelines use a formula along with other, rather complicated factors, to arrive at the amount of child support payable from one parent to the other. The amount of parenting time each parent has with the children, the amount of each parent's GROSS income, and the amount each parent is paying out for the children in terms of health insurance coverage, day care expenses, etc., are significant factors in establishing the amount of child support. If you have questions about the Colorado child support guidelines, or questions regarding child support enforcement or modification, contact the family law attorneys at Peterson & Lyons, Attorneys at Law, PLLC today.

Child Support Enforcement and Arrearages Collection

The failure of a parent to pay court ordered child support usually results in a negative, and often critical, financial situation for the other parent. Collecting this overdue support quickly and economically may make a significant difference in whether the custodial parent can adequately care for the children. We use the quickest, most effective, and most reliable methods of collecting this overdue support and insuring that is does not become delinquent again. Further, the parent who fails to pay his or her child support may have to reimburse the other party for the costs (including attorney's fees) of forcing compliance. Our firm will work with you on these expenses until you can be reimbursed, offering you several alternatives to enable you to fund this collection effort. Call us to discuss your alternatives.

Child Support Modifications

We also handle child support modifications when a substantial and continuing change in circumstances occurs that makes the original order inappropriate (whether too low or too high).  Those changes in circumstances include, but are not limited to, changes in parental responsibilitylocation, significant increase or decrease in incomes of the parties, and other factors. However, generally speaking, the change in support is only effective from the time you file with the court requesting such a change, so it does not pay to wait if a change is appropriate.

If you have not been receiving the child support payments to which you and your child are entitled, or if you believe that your child support payments need to be adjusted due to changes in circumstances, contact the child support lawyers at Peterson & Lyons, Attorneys at Law, PLLC today.
